If you’ve ever met someone with the same Human Design Type as you and thought, “You don’t feel anything like me,”… you’re not imagining it. The deeper I go in this work – in myself, in the women I sit with, in the mothers and seekers who come to me for guidance – the more obvious it becomes: Type is only the beginning.
Yes, it gives you a foundation. It shows you how your aura functions, how your energy moves through the world. But it doesn’t explain why two Generators can walk into a room and bring completely different frequencies. It doesn’t explain why some Manifestors crave collaboration while others need to walk entirely alone. It doesn’t show you the nuance of your emotional rhythm, or why certain spaces energise you while others leave you depleted.
Because behind the Type is something more personal. Your definition. Your channels. Your circuitry. The way your centres interact. These are the subtleties that make you, you. They shape your unique energetic flavour – how you love, lead, rest, respond, speak, and create.
Type is helpful in the beginning, but it can become limiting if we stop there. Especially when we internalise those surface-level phrases we see online. “Generators need to use up their energy each day.” “Projectors can’t work full time.” “Manifestors don’t need others.” Most of the time, those statements are missing the deeper context. And when we take them as truth without nuance, we start shrinking ourselves to fit a version of the design that was never ours to begin with.
Your channels – the gates that connect and pulse through your chart – reveal so much more. They show you how your energy expresses itself. A Generator with storytelling channels will move very differently to one wired for instinctive action or creative intimacy. One might feel fulfilled sharing ideas. Another finds alignment through movement. Another through devotion and service. Same Type, different expression.
Even your centres tell a story. The defined ones speak to what’s consistent, what you can trust. The undefined ones, though? That’s where you’re most open – where you feel the world and absorb the moods, expectations, and identities of others. And when we don’t understand how to work with that openness, we can start operating from it – not as a mirror, but as a mask.
And still, it’s not about memorising every detail of your chart. It’s about feeling into what’s true. It’s about recognising where you’ve boxed yourself in and inviting yourself back into curiosity. Where have you limited your own expression because a post said “you should”? Where have you compared your energy to someone else’s and made yourself wrong?
You are not here to live your Type perfectly. You’re here to live your truth fully. And that will never come from the surface alone. It comes from being willing to explore the layers. To hold your design like a conversation – one that unfolds slowly, with presence, grace, and honesty.
Human Design isn’t meant to be a cage. It’s a compass. And once you’ve anchored in your Type, let yourself wander into the rest of the map. That’s where your soul has been waiting all along.
